Pharmacist Prescribing

HomeServicesPharmacist Prescribing

Your Super Thrifty pharmacist is an integral part of your healthcare team.

Working alongside your doctor, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, nurse, and dentist we’re here to help ensure you reach your optimal health outcome. Your pharmacist has trained in medicinal chemistry and understands how drugs may interact with each other and how they work in your body. Pharmacists can provide many health care services beyond dispensing medication.*

Provide advice on non-prescription medications and medical devices
Talking to your pharmacist when you need a non-prescription drug helps you to select the medication that is best for you. It also helps you to avoid harmful effects caused by any drug interactions or the worsening of your medical conditions. Your pharmacist can also help you select and use medical devices such as diabetic supplies and metered-dose inhaler-spacer devices.

Issue continued care prescriptions
Working with your usual prescriber, your pharmacist can issue a prescription to extend the medication you need to treat a chronic condition when your usual prescriber is unavailable. Note this does not apply to narcotic and other controlled drugs.

Adapt a prescription
Working with you and your prescriber, your pharmacist can adapt a prescription by altering the dosage strength, formulation, or regimen of the drug prescribed to more closely meet your needs.

Prescribe medications for uncomplicated UTI (bladder infection)
Many Super Thrifty pharmacists have completed additional training and have been authorized to prescribe medications to treat uncomplicated, recurring bladder infections. in non-pregnant patients presenting typical signs and symptoms. Under certain conditions, your pharmacist may refer you to another healthcare provider such as your primary care doctor or nurse practitioner.
