Our Store
Higginbotham is a well-known name in Virden, having had several generations of family pharmacists practicing in the town going all the way back to 1888. In May 1983, Super Thrifty bought Higginbotham’s Drug Store. In October 1990, the store moved to its present location.
Barry Brydon was pharmacist/manager/owner from 1983 until 2011. Mike Anderson, who started with Super Thrifty in 2000, became partner/manager/owner in 2011. Kjarna Jamieson joined the pharmacy staff in 2016. Tracy Lelond-Young started in 2018.
Our Community
Virden, with a population of approximately 3100 people, is known as the “Oil Capital of Manitoba” after oil was first discovered nearby in 1951. Located along the Trans-Canada Highway, Virden is a regional centre for commercial enterprise, restaurants, gas stations, and a performing arts theatre. There are a variety of sports and recreational facilities in the community. The town is home to the annual Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze.
Meet the team
Mike Anderson
Manager/Pharmacist
Mike was raised in Carberry, Manitoba and began his pharmacy career at Super Thrifty in Virden in August 2000. He assumed the pharmacist manager position in 2011. He credits two great mentors, Dennis McMillan in Carberry and Barry Brydon in Virden, early in his professional career for helping him to become the pharmacist that he is today.
What Mike enjoys most about being a pharmacist, especially in the small town setting, is getting to know the patients well and being someone they trust for advice. Mike appreciates the Super Thrifty “We Care” philosophy: “I really enjoy working for Super Thrifty because it is a company that was founded by and run by pharmacists who really care about the profession.”
Mike is married to Teresa and has three young children, Caleb, Ryan, and Inara. When not busy with the store and family, Mike enjoys jogging, golfing and reading comic books.
Haley Foxton
Pharmacist
Haley is certified to administer injections. In addition, she is authorized to prescribe medications for self-limiting conditions. She can prescribe smoking cessation medications and can provide counselling to those who wish to stop smoking.
