Our Store
Gerald Thiessen has been pharmacist/manager/owner since 2003, when Super Thrifty bought DuLac Pharmacy, a long-time community pharmacy. Noureen Qamar joined the pharmacy team in 2016.
Our Community
Ste. Rose du Lac, with a population of approximately 1000, serves a trade area of 5,000 people. The town acts as a regional centre for health and medical services, livestock and agriculture, tourism, commerce and shopping. Situated between Lake Manitoba and Lake Dauphin, the town’s great location offers excellent recreational summer and winter opportunities. A large stone replica of the famous grotto at Lourdes, France is a local attraction. Hoof n’ Holler Days, held every October over three days, is a family-centred festival that includes a parade, fireworks, duck races, a fall supper, a casino and other activities. Super Thrifty is a proud sponsor of the Hoof n’ Holler Days annual festival.
Meet the team
Gerald Thiessen
Manager/Pharmacist
Gerald hails from south-eastern Manitoba, attending school in Vita, MB. Gerald completed his pharmacy degree in 1995, starting his career in Steinbach. He joined the Super Thrifty family in Ste. Rose du Lac in 2003. He’s authorized to administer injections. Gerald is certified by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba in Opioid Dependence Treatment and is able to dispense methadone.
Gerald enjoys the community he serves. “Over time, my customers have become friends, so I have a personal interest in their well-being. Seeing my customers pass on is a very difficult thing for me but I am glad that I was involved in their lives. We are a very caring pharmacy and our goal is always to provide the best possible care for our customers and friends.”
Noureen Qamar
Pharmacist
Noureen graduated in 2001 in Pakistan with a pharmacy degree. She immigrated to Canada in 2005, settling in Toronto, where she further continued her pharmacy education. In 2009 she moved to Manitoba, working in various communities. In April 2016 she started working as a Super Thrifty pharmacist in Ste. Rose du Lac.
Noureen is qualified to prescribe certain medications for self-limiting conditions and for treatment of uncomplicated bladder infections, also known as urinary tract infections. She’s also qualified to administer injections.
Noureen is married and has a young son.
