Our Community

The Pas, with a population of approximately 5,500, is a town in northern Manitoba.  The economy for The Pas and surrounding area is based on agriculture, forestry, commercial fishing, transportation and tourism as well as education and health services. The Pas borders part of Opaskwayak Cree Nation. A University College of the North campus is located here. Every February the Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival takes place showcasing various winter activities such as ice fishing, bannock making, chain saw competitions and dog sled race. This dog sled race is part of the International Federation of Sleddog Sports. The Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival is Manitoba’s oldest winter festival and one of the oldest in Canada.
