Our Community
Centrally located in Manitoba’s Birdtail River Valley, Birtle is the largest community within the RM of Prairie View. Known as the Heavy Horse Capital of Canada, Birtle boasts a strong agricultural sector, a vibrant arts community and is home to one of the provinces best natural swimming facilities. The region offers abundant year round recreational opportunities for the outdoor enthusiast. Super Thrifty joined the Birtle business community in the spring of since 2026.
Meet the team
Alison Dejardins
Pharmacist/Manager
Alison (Whitaker) Desjardins grew up on a mixed farm near Erickson, Manitoba. She completed her pharmacy degree at the University of Manitoba in 1995. After working for a few years in Winnipeg and Brandon, she and her husband Steve moved to Birtle, becoming owner-operators of Birtle Pharmacy in 2000. They raised three sons while operating the pharmacy together for 26 years. Birtle Pharmacy sold to Super Thrifty in spring 2026. Alison will stay on as pharmacist/manager until Jenna Badger returns from maternity leave in the fall of 2026.
Alison is authorized to administer injections, prescribe for self-limiting conditions, smoking cessation and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
